About the Farmer

Oscar Daza has an entrepreneurial temperament, and it was this that pushed him to
become an independent coffee producer, to find his own customers, be free to make his own decisions and manage his production in line with his own vision of coffee growing.
His agroforestry system goes against the Federation’s recommendations, but he stands firmly by it. He is sure that preserving shade coffee production and quality can only improve his coffee.
Oscar now sells more than 60% of his production directly for export.

It was in the Santander Region, in the city of Aratoca that Oscar Daz took over the farms from his father José Rosario Daza. Oscar today is at the head of 8 organic and bird-friendly certified organic farms, including the Santa Maria farm. He is the first in the region to finance his own organic certification. Oscar stands by the importance of shaded coffee tree production and his farms have no less than 15 different shade tree species.
